Cooperation, collaboration and combination of ideas, materials, policies, training, and all things PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) comprise this workgroup. The idea started when Oregon received a call from New York, and now NPR-WORK consists of representatives from twelve states, including directors, training coordinators, PREA coordinators, corrections officers, professionals in the medical and mental health field, a survivor of prison sexual assault-who is working with Just Detention International, and attention and encouragement from national corrections organizations. Members include juvenile justice, adult corrections, jails, detention facilities, and community corrections.

The goal of this group is to facilitate zero-tolerance for sexual abuse in all areas of corrections. Our mission involves sharing: information, training, safety materials, assessments, knowledge, videos, tracking systems, SART information, training opportunities, resources, program development plans, and all things PREA with each other and others in the field in order to attain our goal of zero tolerance. Additionally, to facilitate ongoing conversation, questions, and brainstorming. Our website, sponsored by Oregon Youth Authority finally goes up by July 10th 2011. This discussion link will be where we talk to each other, brainstorm, ask questions, and share all things PREA. Our website will have a link to this discussion. Please email if you want to join or have questions and if you are already part of the PREA workgroup started out of Oregon, I will be sending you an update as soon as our website is up and running. prea.coordinator@oya.state.or.us Kila Jager

We finally have a website for this workgroup http://www.oregon.gov/OYA/prea/prearesources.shtml
It is still very basic and does not have all the member states training material yet. We will be adding news articles, what’s happening in member states and resources as we get them. Also a great new development, Indiana has just finished a staff training video and is willing to share. We will be posting that link this week also. Oregon Youth Authority is hosting this site. Remember this group is for anyone working towards being PREA compliant. We have members from youth corrections, adult corrections, Jails, prisons, community corrections, advocacy groups, prison rape survivors, medical personnel, mental health, and even a production company who films inside correctional facilities and courts for training vignettes.
Post any PREA related question to this forum and if you want to join our workgroup, email prea.coordinator@oya.state.or.us
Together we can do this
Our workgroup is expanding to and now includes an international member, Australia. Welcome. We have not only been able to share information and materials on PREA, but other issues as well--inmate manipulation, placement assessment tool, training tools and connections and links to answers or organizations who can answer questions. Our next step is getting all the shared trainings up on the website so members can pick what they would like to use or share. If you are not a member and want to join us, email prea.coordinator@oya.state.or.us

YOu are so right. This is a great development by our Indiana workgroup member. Other workgroup members are working on other parts of PREA that they are willing to share with all. The link to the Indiana PREA staff training video is: http://vimeo.com/26700677
Our workgroup member from Texas is looking for SART training materials. This training needs to be for Sexual Assault Response Teams in correctional facilities. Please post any trainings you may have in this area. If you want to join our National PREA Resource Workgroup, email prea.coordinator@oya.state.or.us
The Diana Screen--Child Protection Test
A National PREA REsource workgroup member asks the following:
Greetings everyone,
I was curious if any of you are familiar with the Diana Screen tool used for screening staff that should not work with children. Your input is appreciated.
I have attached information about the screening. Is anyone using it and what have you found?
Also a great new development, Indiana has just finished a staff training video and is willing to share.

Does anyone had a fact sheet or information sheet on PREA that they are handing out at Intake/Admission? I'm looking for a one-page sheet that explains their rights, how to report, etc.
Thanks!
