 1st Brigade Combat Team Commander

 Colonel Mark L. Stock

1st BCT CDRCol. Mark L. Stock is a 1989 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he was commissioned an infantry officer in the United States Army. 

Since that time, he has served in both airborne and mechanized infantry units, including two operational deployments to Bosnia, three combat deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. Additionally, Col. Stock served in numerous command, staff and student assignments at Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Schweinfurt, Germany; Washington, D.C.; Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; Fort Irwin, Calif.; and Newport, R.I. 

Col. Stock’s military education includes the College of Naval Warfare, United States Army Command and General Staff College, Infantry Officers’ Courses, Ranger School, Jumpmaster and Pathfinder Courses, ADF Joint Operations Planning Course in Williamston, Australia, and the Joint Firepower Controllers Course.

Col. Stock has a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the United States Military Academy, a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the College of Naval Warfare. 

Col. Stock and his wife Liz have two children.

 

 Brigade Command Sergeant Major

Command Sergeant Major Joey Love

1st BCT CSMCommand Sgt. Maj. Joey Love enlisted in the United States Army in October 1985. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Command Sgt. Maj. Love has served with the 42nd and 32nd Field Artillery Regiments in Germany, the 30th at Fort Sill, Okla., and the 8th in Korea.   At Fort Bragg, N.C., he served with the 8th, 321st and 319th Field Artillery Regiments as well as the 18th Field Artillery Brigade. He served two years at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. Currently, Love serves as the command sergeant major of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. 

In addition to his overseas tours to Germany and Korea, Love has deployed to Afghanistan once (2002-03) and to Iraq twice (2005-06) and (2009-10).

Command Sgt. Maj. Love has held every enlisted artillery leadership position, from section chief to brigade command sergeant major.

His military education includes the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Jumpmaster School, Air Assault School, Rappel Master School, Nuclear Biological Chemical Course, Equal Opportunity Representative Course, Unit Alcohol and Drug Coordinator Course, Battle Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Master Driver Course and Advanced Tactical Data System Course.

Command Sgt. Maj. Love has an associate’s degree from Central Texas College and a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior University.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with one silver and 1 oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with one silver cluster, Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd), Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

His special skill awards include Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Driver/Mechanics Badge with Wheel, Track and Mechanics Clasp. His foreign awards include the German Schutzenschnur (silver) and the Australian Jump Wings. Love has been inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.

Command Sgt. Maj. Love and his wife, Valerie, have four children and three grandchildren.
