During the past few months, we’ve been conducting major field quality assurance operations. The last two I’ve blogged about in the past – the vacant/delete check and the field verification check. Both of these are last chances to include cases that may have been incorrectly or incompletely measured.
All our data collection is now done. I am pleased to report that we remain on schedule as we have gathered a complete picture of the nation.
Our follow up is important to ensuring an accurate census, and I want to thank the American public again for their patience. At this point, we have attempted to record the population characteristics of every household, and sought a resolution on every address.
We are now entering the data processing phase. All of the questionnaires we received, either directly from respondents or from in-person follow up, must be converted into an electronic format, processed, and then tabulated, in order to provide the state population totals necessary for apportionment.
As mandated by law, the national and state population counts must be delivered to the President of the United States by December 31, 2010. This will be the first release of any data from the 2010 Census. We have much to do to get ready for this.

It is nice to hear about the subject for it has been done in very cost-effective within budget as stated in your posts.
Meanwhile I do not know if it is within scope to ask HOW AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY/POST-ENUMERATION SAMPLE SURVEY ARE CONDUCTED ALONGWITH HIRING OF SUITABLE STAFF/TESTING ETC AND MAY ALSO ADVISE THE CONTACT INFO TO PERSUE FURTHER.
As stated time and again that for complete and accurate census/data-collection, scope of surveys shall be much bigger in future studies as per my understanding for which I trust CENSUS BUREAU MAY BE LOOKING FOE MANPOWER BASED UPON ITS NEEDS FROM TIME TO TIME.

Here is a 10 yr goal. The counting of America should be an on-gong process. At any point in time you should be able to push a button and have a reasonable count of people–plus other stuff asked in the census questionnaire . The days of pulling together an army of people, sending out millions of forms, spending a year to count and spending billions and billions of dollars should end. Don’t focus your efforts on this 100 yr old process but a totally new way. With technology and using a few common pieces of information that are currently available–it will be difficult but not impossible. The hard part will be changing the “philosophy of the census” and the people running it. You know sooner or later your going to have an “active” vs “passive” census system. Might as well start now!!!
If you need some ideas, I will be happy to participate in the process.
This statement is very misleading. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of Census workers who are part of Census Coverage Measurement who are still working to audit the statistical validity of the Census. By putting the statement that the Census is done on Facebook, it makes our jobs very difficult as we visit homes to conduct interviews. We may not be done for several weeks yet.
That would require a Constitutional Amendment. Not an easy thing to accomplish. Rather than hoping the decennial census becomes a permanent gig, I recommend you continue to search for a real full-time job. Just sayin’.

I started with the Census in April as an enumerator trainee, and worked in 3 separate Census operations this spring and summer: NRFU, VDC and NRFU-RES. I must preface my next statement by saying that in no way am I patting myself on the back, or tooting my own horn, so here goes. On a number of occasions, my CL stated to me that her supervisors at the LCO were impressed with the quantity/quality of work I was producing. Many of the techniques I was using to obtain interviews, or find people with the relevant knowledge about an address, were not taught in training. I ended up as the crew problem solver — I was given all the most difficult EQ’s — refusals, addresses no one else seemed to be able to find, apartment buildings with uncooperative management/owners, etc. Despite this, no one asked me how I managed to accomplish this. When the final operation in our AA was completed, NRFU-RES, I was sent a termination notice in the mail and that was that. No exit interview/questionnaire of any type. Does the Census interview enumerators, CL’s or CLA’s after the fact to ask them about their experiences as Census employees? If not, why not?

Yes as a matter of fact they do. They are called debriefing questionnaire’s. However, only a percentage of the field personnel are given these to fill out.
Only about 7% of those that applied for temporary census taker jobs in 2010 that had any kind or arrest record were hired by the census bureau. One of the ones that did get hired was a registered sex offender in Pennsauken, New Jersey. One of the ones that didn’t get hired was a woman in Philidelphia, PA that wrote a bad check in 1981 & worked in the 1990 census. Me, I sent some bought-off politician an email & used a bunch of 4-letter words, including the f-bomb describing what the governor was doing to him while he was bent over his desk, & what he sucked on while under the governor’s desk while earning fat paychecks for the company that he’s on the payroll of to keep new industries from coming near their plants while a large German auto assembly plant was being recruited into the area. Yeah, that’s what’cha call real quality assurance. That’s not to mention that I got the letter stating that I was inelegeble at the end of July, 2 months after the work had ended. Now, that shows alot of courage form the folks at the hiring center.

You say the census is done. Why are there people going around harassing citizens who submitted the questionaire the day it was received? I have had people trying the SCAM on several occasions. They even have fake papers and badges to make us think they are official!!!
Someone needs to get the stories straight! The census was the form we filled out and mailed in. NOTHING ELSE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN according to the publicity the US Government put out to the public.
