POSITION TITLE:     Regional Volunteer Support and Office Manager

WORK HOURS:        Full-time; 40 hours/week

WORK LOCATION:   50% at the Peace Corps Office in Mekele; 50% in Peace Corps project communities

SALARY:                  Base Annual Salary: USD $8,149 to be paid in ET Birr.

 

Summary of Basic Functions

The Regional Manager oversees the Peace Corps Regional Volunteer Support Office (RSVO) in Mekele. He or she, in conjunction with other RVSO staff members Peace Corps Ethiopia head office staff in Addis Ababa, develops regional strategies for supporting Peace Corps Volunteers working in Tigray. Such support addresses but is not limited to Volunteers' program activities, housing, safety and security and relations with their host organization and community. The Regional Manager participates in program and administrative activities as per guidance from the country director (CD), and senior head office staff. The Regional Manager reports to the Director of Management and Operations (DMO) on administrative matters and the Director of Programming and Training (DPT) on program issues and activities. This position is based in Mekele and requires an estimated 50% of travel time within the region.

Minimum Qualifications:

*         Bachelor's degree in management, or related degree; master's preferred.

*         Five to ten years of progressive and relevant professional experience;

*         Excellent spoken and written English language skills; Level IV (fluent) in reading, writing and speaking in English, Amharic and Tigrinia;

*         Professional background in grassroots development work with rural Ethiopian communities, preferably in Health, HIV, Environment Conservation, and/or Education Programs;

*         Knowledge of the socio-cultural dynamism of Tigray and experience collaborating with local Tigray government;

*         Strong communication skills, including writing of reports, evaluations and public speaking;

*         Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation and advocacy skills;

*         Strong team-building and personnel management and supervision skills;

*         Demonstrated ability to work independently, with limited supervision;

*         Intermediate to advanced Microsoft software skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc);

*         Proven ability to plan, manage logistics schedules and account for associated budgets;

*         Ability to coordinate and manage complex logistical issues for host family arrangements, transportation and coordinating American Volunteers working with rural Ethiopian partners;

Preferred Qualifications:

*         Cross-cultural exposure and experience collaborating with Americans working in and learning about Ethiopia, preferably with the Peace Corps;

*         Experience as a training facilitator;

*         Supervisory experience highly preferred;

*         Experience with project monitoring and evaluation;

*         Strong mentoring and coaching skills, and ability to give constructive feedback;

*         Extreme flexibility and a good nature, especially within an often stressful working environment;

*         Willingness to travel to and spend nights in Volunteer sites (towns & villages) multiple times per month.
