Overview
The United States-European Commission Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Standards Dialogue seeks to minimize bilateral trade frictions and facilitate a better understanding of U.S. and EU goals. The Dialogue allows both parties to discuss their ICT regulations and policies and the methods they use to develop technical regulations. A major area of cooperation under the Standards Dialogue is on e-Accessibility.
The U.S.-EC e-Accessibility dialogue allows both parties to discuss their ICT regulations and policies to ensure coherence among activities of both parties for the benefit of users and industry. The U.S. Department of Commerce advocates a performance-based approach in the development of new accessibility technologies. The European Commission (EC) considers several policy instruments (e.g. public procurement, product certification, and specific legislative provisions) to remove barriers in ICT products and services and achieve voluntary harmonization in Member States.
