  3. The folks in the Veterans Curation Program are archiving and preserving photos from the Great Flood of 1927. Some of these images are just incredible.
The flood claimed as many as 500 lives and displaced nearly half a million people. It's i...mpact on our nation prompted tremendous changes in how we approach flood risk management nationwide. It also spurred the construction of the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project, the system that prevented a catastrophe during the Great Flood of 2011, which broke some of the flood height and flow records from 1927.
Take a look at some of the other curation projects while you're there, and check out how the VCP helps our veterans and preserves our nation's shared history.

We visited and toured the tow boat Mississippi in Cape Girardeau yesterday and it was awesome! It is going to Alton and Chester the next week. It is definitely worth the trip to tour it and play with the river models on the boat.
