OBJECTIVES/DESCRIPTION OF CLERKSHIP:
For graduate students in mid-level provider programs, the department offers a basic introductory clerkship of four weeks duration. The clerkship is divided evenly between obstetrics and gynecology. During the gynecology portion, students will be assigned to family practice, gynecology and surgical clinics. They will have the opportunity to participate in all levels of care and appreciate the transition from routine to specialty to surgical management. During their obstetric rotation, students will equally devote time to clinical obstetrics as well as management of labor patients. Clinical obstetrics will include routine and high risk patients with both midlevel and obstetricians. Students will participate in labor assessments, delivery as well as the assessment of antepartum patients who are hospitalized because of complications of pregnancy. In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend antepartum and ultrasonography clinics.
Additional learning opportunities include our weekly dysplasia conference, surgical case presentations, and endocrine-infertility clinic as available. Our additional intradepartmental services include maternal-fetal medicine, oncology and urogynecology.
