Hospitalist Service
The Internists at WINN manage the Hospitalist Service which cares for Adult patients who are ill and hospitalized. We admit to and care for WINN patients in the progressive care unit and family care units as well as provide inpatient consults to the Emergency Department, OB/GYN, Anesthesia and Surgical Services.

Internal Medicine Consults
The Internists in the Internal Medicine Clinic see outpatients referred to them from Hawks Clinic, Tuttle, Richmond Hill, the Primary Care Medical Home, OB/GYN, Emergency Department, Anesthesia, and Surgical Services. These patients may be seen once for an opinion or to answer a specific question from the referring provider. They may also be seen and managed chronically to assist the referring provider for patients with complex or difficult medical conditions.

Diabetes Management
The Internal Medicine Service has a special focus on Diabetes which is a growing medical problem that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Diabetes Management takes referrals from all of the clinics and services listed previously mentioned and helps manage patients in coordination with the patient’s primary care manager and nurse case manager. Clinical Pharmacology
The Clinical Pharmacy Services help manage both in and outpatients at WINN Army Hospital. We specialize in areas of Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, and Polypharmacy Clinical Pharmacists assist primary care providers by giving adult patients extra education in the areas above and help manage challenging and complex medical regimens.

Coumadin Clinic
The Coumadin clinic manages patients who require anticoagulation whether for a short period of time or indefinitely.

Exceptional Family Member Program
The Internal Medicine Service now also conducts screening for the EFMP program. This program is designed to assist the family members of Soldiers by accurately documenting their medical problems and ensuring Soldiers are assigned to duty stations which support the medical needs of those family members.

Respiratory and Cardiovascular Services
The Internal Medicine Service provides a number of procedures for outpatients and inpatients at WINN.
-Inpatient Invasive and Noninvasive Mechanical Ventilation, and Respiratory Evaluation/ Management
-Pulmonary Function Testing to include Exercise and Methacholine Challenge
- Echocardiogram and Stress-Echocardiograms
- ECG and Graded Exercise Stress Testing
- Holter Monitor, Outpatient Telemetry and Peripheral Vascular DiseaseRespiratory and Cardiovascular Services

You can think of what Internists do by what the subspecialties of Internal Medicine are.

Cardiology – Pulmonary – Critical Care – Nephrology Endocrinology – Infectious Disease – Rheumatology Allergy/Immunology– Hematology/Oncology- Gastroenterology-as well as Neurology and Dermatology.

Internists are trained in all of these areas and can treat many problems in these fields. When problems require additional evaluations or treatments they know when to refer and work closely with the subspecialists who are all Internists as well.
