Veterans Legislation Supported by Congressman Schrader

Public Law:

HR 1016, Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act

This bill provides for advanced budgeting for VA (1) Medical Services; (2) Medical Support and Compliance; and (3) Medical Facilities.

 HR 4887,TRICARE Affirmation Act

This bill affirms TRICARE and Nonappropriated Fund Health Benefits Program constitute minimal essential healthcare coverage as required by the new healthcare law.

 

Passed the House:

Schrader Amendment 1 HR 5136, requires the Secretary of Defense to ensure each member of the National Guard and Army Reserve is provided with a clear and comprehensive statement of medical care and treatment they entitled to under Federal law.

Schrader Amendment 2 HR 5136, instructs the Department of Defense Inspector General to conduct a study assessing the medical processing of National Guard and Reserve Soldiers mobilizing and demobilizing in support of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

HR 1168, Veterans Retraining Act of 2009

This bill would provide an assistance allowance to unemployed veterans who are ineligible for other assistance programs to enroll in an employment training program.

HR 1171, Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Reauthorization

This legislation reauthorizes the VA homeless veterans’ reintegration programs for job training, counseling, and placement services through 2014.

HR 1211, Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act

Directs the VA to study barriers to and health services provided to female veterans and expand female veterans’ access to care for maternity, PTSD, and sexual trauma.

HR 2352, The Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act of 2009

The Veterans Business Center Act of 2009 (HR 1803) was included to establish a nationwide business assistance program for veterans, designate new outreach facilities, and establish programs for procurement, service-disabled veterans, and financing.

 HR 303, Retired Pay Restoration Act

This bill would allow for the concurrent receipt of military retired pay and veterans' disability compensation and of veterans' disability compensation and combat-related special pay for vets who left the military due to a service-connected disability.

 HR 3337, Post-9/11 Veterans' Job Training Act of 2009

This bill expands the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Program for eligible veterans to receive partial benefits to pursue apprenticeships or other on-the-job training.

 HR 3358, Troops' Soft Landing, Employment, and Rural Transportation

This bill would allow reservists and guardsmen to remain on active duty up to 90 days after demobilization and receive reintegration counseling. It directs the VA to establish a grant program to assist veterans in rural areas with travel to VA medical facilities.

 HR 4028, Rural Veterans Services Outreach and Training Act

This bill directs the VA to make up to $2 million in annual grants to state veteran departments to train veteran service officers in outreach and assistance to veterans and family members eligible to receive veterans-related benefits in rural counties.
