Job Summary:

This position is located in the Project Engineering Division of the Office of the Assistant Project Manager for Systems and Projects, and reports to the Director, Project Engineering Division. As a General Engineer you will perform or direct engineering projects, studies, and analyses pertaining to all aspects of SPR operations; administer contracts for the expansion and modification of SPR storage sites and distribution systems; provide engineering advice and support to other SPRPMO offices and contract personnel.

Duties: 
As a General Engineer, you will: 
  •  Plan, manage, and perform engineering projects, studies, analyses, design, design reviews, and documentation in support of the operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of SPR facilities 
  • Develop budget estimates for construction projects, including related field engineering and design costs, and monitor contract expenditures 
  • Develop repair, maintenance, modification, and operation concepts, plans, strategies, and schedules; evaluate contractor technical proposals; develop scopes of work and technical provisions for maintenance 
  • Provide expert engineering advice and assistance to SPR officials and specialists
  •  

 


Qualifications Required: 

To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Basic Educational Requirements AND (2) Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying.

 

1. BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.



The GS-13 position requires one year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. 

 

For this position specialized experience is defined as: 

  •  Broad professional knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods in either mechanical, electrical, electronic, or civil engineering
  • Ability to organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific data in solution of engineering problems
  • Ability to develop alternative solutions to design and operational problems and apply new developments or experimental approaches 
  • Skill in preparing project papers and reports and coordinating program plans and policies
