Army Community Service is a worldwide program designed to provide both active duty and retired military families with a centrally located and unit-based responsive source of information and assistance in solving problems. The program functions as an expansive social service network for the military community. At Fort Gordon, Army Community Service is located in Darling Hall, Building 33720, at the corner of Chamberlain Avenue and Kilbourne Street. A satellite location is the Family Outreach Center, Building 1905-A on Brainard Avenue in Gordon Terrace housing area.
Relocation Readiness

Relocation Readiness assists and supports military personnel and their families during their moves from one military community to another. Welcome packets and electronic network information from Fort Gordon and other military installations all over the world are available. Basic household goods are made accessible to relocating families through the loan closet. Newcomer orientations help families settle in to the local area. The welcome center in Darling Hall provides computer access, local information and general relocation counseling.
Financial Readiness

Financial readiness uses educational literature, classroom instruction and online curriculum to increase the financial management skills and consumer awareness of service members and their families. Classes are available weekly at the Family Outreach Center as well as at units by request and include topics such as budgeting, checkbook management, basic investing, credit reports and scoring, identify theft, insurance and planning for large purchases such as a car or home.
Army Emergency Relief

For those active duty or retired Soldiers and their family members who find themselves in an unexpected emergency crisis, the Army Emergency Relief (AER) program stands ready to assist them. The program also provides assistance to spouses and orphans of deceased service members. Active

Mobilization and Deployment Services include Family Readiness Group training for unit and community levels. Rear Detachment Commander (RDC) training is provided online and can be accessed through the ACS Web site.
Employment Readiness Program

The Employment Readiness Program provides family members of active duty, separating or retiring military personnel with information and assistance regarding employment opportunities in the surrounding area. Services include a job bank of available job opportunities, individual counseling, workshops and resume assistance. Information about the Army. Family Advocacy Program

The Family Advocacy Program is dedicated to prevention, prompt reporting, intervention and treatment of child and spouse maltreatment and sexual assault. The program enhances the quality of life for military and family members by offering classes, workshops, seminars and support services.

The Information, Referral and Follow-Up Program provides military personnel and their families access to information that will assist them in meeting their needs and improving the quality of their lives.
Outreach Program

The Outreach Program enhances readiness and retention by assisting Soldiers and families in developing a stronger sense of self-reliance and belonging in the military community. Outreach targets those families who have the greatest level of need, but are least likely to seek out and take advantage of services until they have reached a state of crisis. Outreach focuses on three main areas: education and prevention, direct services and organizing support networks to encourage self-help and cultivate a sense of ownership within the military community.
Exceptional Family Member Program

The Exceptional Family Member Program provides information, referral, advocacy and support services for military family members with special needs. The program sponsors monthly support group meetings and offers recreational activities designed specifically for family members with special needs. Information about local and nationwide resources is available to facilitate access to various support services and organizations. Enrollment is mandatory, once the need is identified.

Army Community Service volunteers work hand-in- hand with staff members to provide quality services to the Fort Gordon community. The following list reflects just a few of the services supported by Army Community Service volunteers: Christmas House, Swap and Assist Shop, information and referral services, Victim Advocate Program and Playgroup. Army Volunteer Corps

Information is available through the Army Volunteer Corps coordinator about volunteer opportunities as well as how to establish volunteer programs. Soldiers documenting volunteer experience for the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal are encouraged to register as installation volunteers. Army Family Action Plan

Army Family Action Plan (AFAP) is a grass-roots program designed to provide a voice to all members of the military to include active duty, Reserve, National Guard, retirees, Department of the Army civilians and family members of these groups. The AFAP process lets people say what is working, what isn’t and provides recommendations for improvement. AFAP alerts commanders and Army leaders to areas of concern that gives them the opportunity to quickly put plans into place toward resolving issues.
Army Family Team Building

Army Family Team Building (AFTB) is a volunteer-led organization with a central mission to provide training, knowledge and certification to family/community members to support the total Army effort. AFTB augments the Army mission by educating and training the Army family/community to be self-sufficient leaders within their communities.
Air Force Family Readiness Program

The Air Force Family Readiness Program is embedded in the 480th ISR Group. This office provides Air Force Family Programs to the 480th ISR Group and all other Active Duty Airmen stationed on Fort Gordon. The goal of this program is to provide Airman and family member's assistance with accessing services while stationed at Fort Gordon. Programming includes but is not limited to; newcomer orientation, Air Force Heart Link Spouse Orientation, Air Force Bundles for Babies New Parent Program, information and referral, monthly spouse activities, military parent resources, and deployment support. The Key Spouse program is also active in all of the Air Force Units.

Christmas House

Christmas House assists military members with providing a traditional winter holiday celebration for their families. Monetary donations from units and agencies, both on and off the installation, are used to purchase toys and commissary gift certificates.
Soldier and Family Assistance Center

The Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) provides a supportive environment to help the Warriors in Transition and their families deal with the stress and uncertainty of injury and the effects of war. The SFAC can help if the service member plans to continue their military career or not.
Navy Family Readiness Program

The Navy Family Readiness Program is hosted by Army Community Service. This is a local fleet and family program to provide services for the Navy at Fort Gordon. Service providers include a clinical counselor and a work and family life consultant. The goal is to provide Sailors and their family members with a point of contact and assistance with accessing services while stationed at Fort Gordon. Services provided include counseling, information and referral, employment assistance and life skills training. The Navy Family Readiness Program is located at Darling Hall, Building 33720, Suite 224.
Swap and Assist Shop

The Swap and Assist Shop is located in Building 39101 in the Brems Barracks area, at Avenue of the States and 40th Street (behind the PX). It is open to all military, retirees and their family members. Donated items such as clothing, shoes, baby items and other household goods are available free of charge to military grades E-4 and below. Military grades E-5 and above, as well as their family members, are asked to bring merchandise of equal value to the swap. The Swap and Assist Shop is open on Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (closed during the summer months). Special assistance may be provided by referral and special appointment. Donations of usable clothing and household items are always welcome.
Survivor Outreach Services

Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) serves the survivors of our fallen Soldiers. Services include support groups, Financial classes, and benefit and entitlement assistance. Quarterly Survivor Forums are held to strengthen the Casualty Assistance process. SOS assures survivors a connection to the Army family as long as they desire.
Child Development Facilities

Child Development Services operates two child development facilities and a Family Child Care Program on Fort Gordon for children 6 weeks to 12 years old. Full-day care and hourly care are provided in the Main Child Development Center, Building 44401. With a capacity for 198 children, this facility accommodates patrons who require care Monday through Friday, 5:15 a.m. and 6 p.m. and patrons who need less than 25 hours of care per week in the hourly care program. Fort Gordon Service Club
The Fort Gordon Service Club’s mission is to help support the Fort Gordon community and those who live in the community. The service club is no longer rank associated; officer’s spouses, civilian spouses, enlisted spouses—anyone can be involved. The club has three focus areas—education, social and service. The Fort Gordon Service Club helps the community through its thrift shop and flea markets. It raises money which is given back to the community through grants and scholarships. Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop, a Fort Gordon Service Club function, is operated for the benefit and use of all military and civilian personnel. The Thrift Shop is open every Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (October through May). It is located in Building 39102, Brems Barracks area at Avenue of the States and 40th Street (behind the PX). The shop accepts clothing and miscellaneous other items for sale on consignment.
Automotive Center

Fort Gordon has one of the finest automotive centers in the Army and offers car and light truck repairs, plus alignment on most cars. The facility features 28 inside bays, 34 exterior bays and offers self-help automotive services and professional assistance. A safety orientation is presented prior to the use of the facility. The orientations are held on a weekly basis.
Self Storage Center

Fort Gordon operates a 106-unit self-storage center that provides convenient, economical and secure mini-storage for the military community.
Bus Travel Center

The Bus Travel Center, located in Building 36200, offers economical and dependable service throughout the United States. Military personnel and their family members are always entitled to reduced fares. The bus travel center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For schedules and prices, call (706) 793-0026.
Youth Challenge Academy

The Youth Challenge Academy opened with its first class at Fort Gordon in September 2000. The second campus in Georgia, it is a voluntary 22-week residential program for “at risk” Georgia high school dropouts. Sponsored by the state’s National Guard, cadets are given an opportunity to turn their lives around by acquiring life skills and their General Education Diploma.
