A 12-year tradition continues as students of Clarksville/Montgomery County and Fort Campbell Schools once again have the opportunity to take part in the Kiwanis Club Memories of Service and Sacrifice Committee "Interview-A-Veteran" contest.

This year's topic is "Why I Served and How It Changed My Life." Said contest coordinator Debbie McGaha Bratton, "The essay is a win-win experience for both the students and the veterans. The relationship captures the veterans' living history which often differs from the school textbook. "The essay process has actually changed students' lives. And, sometimes the veterans reveals something that they have never shared publicly before - even after many years of their service separation."

Students from grades 6-12 are eligible to participate. Area private schools also wishing to participate are welcome to do so. Forms and contest rules can be downloaded at http://www.cmcss.net/news/?id=427 . Essays must include the veteran's (or active duty service member's) service branch, rank, and dates of service. The essay should reflect the student's understanding of the veteran's or active duty soldier's service experience. Research is encouraged.
