At Home in the Tennessee Valley
When you make the Tennessee Valley your home, you will experience a high quality of life, a low cost of living and some of the country’s most exciting recreational, cultural and historic attractions. Here, modern urban edge and cosmopolitan diversity meet Southern tradition and charm. And, you’re a drive away from some of America’s leading vacation destinations, including musical Nashville, metropolitan Atlanta and popular natural wonders.
With its combination of farmers’ markets, supermarkets, local businesses and regional malls anchored by well-known department stores, shopping is easy and convenient in the Tennessee Valley. Organic foods can be found here as well, through programs like Buy-Fresh-Buy-Local and Grow Alabama. Fun and quirky shops abound, like Scottsboro’s Unclaimed Baggage Center, an inexpensive and offbeat market offering exactly what its name suggests.
If you prefer a peaceful rural setting, within minutes of work, you may be interested to learn that Cullman, AL was featured in the book The 50 Best Small Southern Towns. Scottsboro, AL was chosen as one of the top small towns in America in the book Boom Town USA. And Fayetteville, TN recently won the “Great American City Award” for its small size and hospitable local atmosphere.
And, among a wide range of area activities, those who enjoy top-flight recreation will appreciate a choice of three Robert Trent Jones Golf Courses, one of which emulates a Scottish Links course, or a hiking expedition along one of the area’s numerous park trails or lakes.
Spectator sports are also strong. During the fall, Saturday is football in Alabama as locals trek to the University of Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama A&M and other top schools to catch the action. In spring and summer, arena football continues with the Tennessee Valley Vipers. From Spring through early Fall, you can take the family to the ballpark and watch great minor league baseball with the Huntsville Stars, the Southern League Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. And the Huntsville Havocs regularly draw thousands of hockey fans to the downtown Von Braun Center.
Fine arts are also well represented by dance, theater and museum events throughout the year. Where else is it just a short drive to one of the local shopping malls to pick up the latest designer fashions, or to a local farmers’ market to select your favorite fresh fruits and vegetables?
