Title of Clerkship:  Family Medicine

Department:  Family Medicine

Length of Rotation:  4-6 weeks; can accommodate 2 week electives

Type of Students Accepted:  3rd & 4th year medical students on HPSP scholarship (military obligation)

OBJECTIVES/ DESCRIPTION OF CLERKSHIP: 

The clinical clerkship program in Family Medicine is primarily oriented toward ambulatory medicine and stresses primary, comprehensive, and preventive health care to soldiers, family members, and retirees.  The student will be given direct patient responsibilities commensurate with his/her level of training.  The student will participate in daily outpatient clinic and will also spend one week on the inpatient service and will be supervised by a board certified Family Physician and work closely with Family Medicine residents.  The student will attend daily morning report at 0715 hours and academic lectures on Wednesdays from 0700-1200 hours.  Clinic hours are from 0800-1630.
