Jon Heller is a Master Training Specialist at the U.S. Coast Guard's Leadership Development Center. In his 20 years active duty service, he served in a variety of leadership positions including maritime law enforcement boarding officer for counter-narcotics and fisheries, aids to navigation, financial management, and as an associate professor on the Management Department faculty and as the Regimental Officer at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He was awarded the American Society of Military Comptroller’s Comptroller of the Year, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Naval Order Instructor of the Year Award as well as the Academy's Spirit of the Bear Award for dedication mentoring cadets and officer candidates. In other pursuits, Mr. Heller is a certified college counselor, directs the Academy’s cadet musical, coaches little league baseball and basketball and teaches accounting at the University of Connecticut Avery Point Campus.

A Pittsburgh native, Mr. Heller is a Class of 1989, Echo Company, Electrical Engineering graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, has a Master of Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia, and completed the course work requirements for a doctorate in management at the University of Rhode Island.

LT Mary Bender is a primary flight instructor in VT-3 at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. Previously, LT Bender flew HU-25 Falcons at AIRSTA Corpus Christi for over four years after earning her wings of gold in February, 2008. She is a 2006 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy.

In addition to flying on countless drug and SAR operations, LT Bender has had the privilege of winning the All Armed Forces Beach Volleyball competition twice and competing at the Military World Peace Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 and CISM 2012 in Amsterdam with the All Armed Forces Volleyball Teams. In her spare time, she plays the violin in her church orchestra and coaches volleyball.

Lieutenant Sarah Janaro received her officer commission and Bachelors of Science in Government from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2006. She currently serves as the Response Duty Officer at Sector Long Island Sound.

Previous assignments include Congressional Reports Coordinator for the Office of Budget and Programs at Coast Guard Headquarters in the Washington, D.C. and Deck Watch Officer onboard Coast Guard Cutter Forward home-ported in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Career highlights include attending the Abshire Inamori Leadership Academy International Fellows Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, serving on the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee for the 56th Presidential Inauguration and the Commandant’s Diversity Advisory Council, and selection as a Military Mentor for the United States Senate Youth Program. She also is a co-author of the article “Female Leadership Development in the Military: Embodied Experience and Consequences” published in the Central Business Review.

Following her current assignment, LT Janaro will attend graduate school for Coast Guard Public Affairs. LT Janaro is a native of Winchester, Illinois and is married to LT Jeff Janaro.

Lieutenant Lang, a native of Roseland, New Jersey, is a graduate of West Essex Regional High School and a 2005 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy. After graduating from the Academy, LT Lang reported to USCGC Bear (WMEC 901) in Portsmouth, Virginia where he served as deck watch officer, deck department head and maritime law enforcement boarding officer. Throughout this assignment, he deployed in support of multiple counter narcotics and migrant interdiction operations and personally led numerous counter-drug boardings resulting in one seizure. LT Lang also deployed to ten countries in Western Africa in support of the U.S. Navy’s Six Fleet.

Following this assignment, LT Lang deployed to the Arabian Sea as Executive Officer aboard USCGC Maui (WPB 1304) home-ported in Manama, Bahrain. LT Lang was actively involved in Coalition Forces operations in the North Arabian Gulf providing security to the Al Basra and the Khawr Al Amaya Oil platforms, training Iraq Maritime Forces and conducting anti-piracy missions.

Upon completion of this assignment, LT Lang then reported to USCGC Dolphin (WPB 87354) home-ported in Miami Beach, Florida to serve as Commanding Officer. During this assignment, LT Lang planned/executed numerous multiple counter narcotics and migrant interdiction operations in the Straits of Florida. LT Lang is cited for four drug interdictions and the interdiction over 150 migrants during his tour. LT Lang also deployed to the Gulf of Mexico in support of Operation Deep Water Horizon.

Upon completion of this assignment, LT Lang reported to the District Seven Command Center as a Command Duty Officer where he where he oversaw search and rescue and law enforcement operations for six sectors and Joint Interagency Task Force South.

LT Lang currently serves as Operations Officer, USCGC Seneca (WMEC 906).

Lieutenant Naughton is a native of Vernon, New Jersey, and a 2006 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy. After graduating from the Academy, LT Naughton reported to USCGC Valiant (WMEC 621) in Miami, Florida, where he served as a Deck Watch Officer, First Lieutenant, and a Maritime Law Enforcement Boarding Officer. As the Law Enforcement Officer, LT Naughton led the interdiction, processing, holding, and transfer of over 1,700 multi-national migrants in two Coast Guard districts.

Following his assignment aboard Valiant, LT Naughton reported to the U. S. Coast Guard’s Seventh District Intelligence branch, where he served as an Intelligence Watch Stander and Counter-Drug Specialist. Following his assignment at Coast Guard District 7, LT Naughton participated in an exchange program with the U. S. Navy. During this exchange assignment, LT Naughton completed an 11-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Following the deployment, LT Naughton reported to the U. S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT), Chesapeake, Virginia in March 2012.

LT Naughton is currently stationed at the MSRT. His personal awards include the Purple Heart, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Coast Guard Commandant’s Letter of Commendation.
