Goal:
Address the food needs of drought-affected populations
Project Objectives:
- Undertake periodic assessments to determine people suffering from transitory food insecurity
- Provide survival ration of food to people in need
- Prevent further depletion of household assets
- Reduce distress migration of an affected population
Description:
An emergency response program which focuses on supporting drought-affected people through sustainable livelihoods and community development activities, disaster prevention and management training, and integration of HIV/AIDS prevention within the relief programming. The JEOP collaborates with the Government of Ethiopia to fill gaps in food availability for vulnerable families in Productive Safety Net Program communities.
JEOP food distribution is conducted in rounds during which NGO partners distribute rations to targeted households. Distribution of food to the 1.8 million (on average) beneficiaries per round is directly conducted by each of the partner agencies. Implementation of the program requires very close collaboration with the Government at all levels, starting with the Federal Disaster Risk Management and Food Security Sector (DRMFSS) structure all the way down to regional, zonal and district level authorities.
