Publication Students' Report of School Crime: 1989 and 1995

Kathryn A. Chandler, Christopher D. Chapman, Michael R. Rand, Bruce M. Taylor

April 12, 1998    NCJ 169607

This report is the first focusing on data collected in the 1995 School Crime Supplement (SCS), an enhancement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). It compares findings from the 1989 and 1995 SCS on student reports of victimization, drug availability, street gang presence, and gun presence at school. In each year, the SCS was administered to about 10,000 persons age 12 through 19 currently attending school. This joint BJS and National Center for Education Statistics report presents the first findings from the 1995 supplement, discussing relationships among the the variables examined, such as how drug availability, street gang presence, and gun presence are related to student reports of being victimized at school.
