Diversity

Diversity is a Central Part of ORISE’s DNA

At the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), diversity is at the core of everything we do. From learning events that enhance our employees’ appreciation for all the ways in which we differ to recognizing diversity through educational outreach, subcontracting and economic development, we are committed to appreciating the unique characteristics that contribute to a successful workplace.

ORISE makes it a priority to ensure that employees have the opportunity to work and develop in an environment that is uninhibited and free of harassment or discrimination. We strive to maintain a workplace that promotes creativity, rewards excellence, as well as encourages employees to respect and accept differences in pursuit of producing the highest quality products and services.

Increasing diversity awareness is an ongoing commitment and we have established three central objectives to strengthen this lifeblood of our work environment:

  • Maintain a workforce that is knowledgeable of, understands and respects individual differences by employing proactive measures to ensure employment and personnel actions are reflective of our diversity principles.
  • Educate the workforce on diversity and the advantages of a diverse workforce by offering diversity training, educational programs, awareness events and celebrations.
  • Infuse diversity into our DNA by integrating diversity principles into applicable policies, business processes and practices to the point that diversity initiatives become a fundamentally natural process.

As a result of these efforts, ORISE was named a Best Diversity Company by Diversity/Careers magazine in 2009. ORISE was one of only four organizations to be ranked as a diversity leader in the "research" topic area, and one of 98 organizations to be ranked highest overall.
