Brigadier General Timothy J. Edens entered the Army in 1981 following graduation from the United States Military Academy. After completing the Armor Officer Basic Course and Army Flight School, he was assigned to A Company, 1st Aviation Battalion, Fort Riley, Kan., as a section leader, supply officer and attack platoon leader.

Following the Aviation Officer Advanced Course, BG Edens served as assistant S3-Air, then operations and plans officer for 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Katterbach, Germany. After assignment to the brigade staff, he commanded C Troop, 1-1 Cavalry, 1st Armored Division. Upon completion of the Army Systems Automation Course, Fort Gordon, Ga., BG Edens was assigned as an information management staff officer for Headquarters, 4th Army, Fort Sheridan, Ill., and then J6, U.S. Atlantic Command, Norfolk, Va., as a tactical radar surveillance specialist. His next assignment was as S3 for 4-9 Cavalry, 6th Infantry Division (Light), Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Following Command and General Staff College in 1995, BG Edens served as S3 for 3-101 Aviation, 101st Aviation Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky. From 1997-2001, he was assigned as C4I systems plans officer and directorate executive officer to the J6, U.S. European Command, Vaihingen (Stuttgart), Germany. In February 2000, BG Edens assumed command of 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry, Illesheim, Germany, and moved the unit to Fort Hood, Texas, the following June for training as the first AH-64D Longbow unit deployed in Europe.

After graduating with a Master of Strategic Studies in June 2003, BG Edens remained on campus of the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa., as chief knowledge officer under the deputy commandant. He returned to Europe in 2004 as deputy chief, Operations Division, G3, U.S. Army Europe.

BG Edens assumed command of 4th Brigade, 1st Infantry Division in 2005 and guided the unit through reflagging as the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade in August 2006. From July 2007 to October 2008, he deployed the brigade as Task Force XII to Balad, Iraq, as the Multi-National Corps-Iraq CAB. From July 2009 to July 2011, BG Edens served as chief of staff and deputy commander, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Rucker, Ala. He was assigned as deputy commanding general for Support, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea, prior to assuming duties as the director of Army Safety and commanding general, U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center, in June 2012.

BG Edens' awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, Parachutist Badge and Master Army Aviator Badge.

BG Edens is married to the former Leslie Bassard, and they have five children.
