Deadlines are February 15 and April 19, 2013

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Colorado recently announced two application cutoff dates of Friday, February 15, and April 19, 2013, to sign up for fiscal year 2013 general Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), Salinity Control Program, and Special Initiatives Program funding.

Eligible applications received after the cutoff period may be considered during a later time and will be processed throughout the fiscal year as needed.  A total of $21 million in financial assistance is available to landowners who implement a quality conservation plan designed to benefit soil, water, air, plants, and/or wildlife resulting in not only productive lands but healthy ecosystems as well.
Snowpack Remains Below Average Despite Snowy December

The 2013 water year got off to a very slow start in the mountains of Colorado. As of January 1, Colorado's statewide snowpack was 70 percent of average and 91 percent of last year's readings, according to Phyllis Ann Philipps, State Conservationist, with the NRCS. “Conditions could have been much worse if we had not received the moisture we did in December” Philipps said. The much needed snowfall in December boosted the snowpack from just 36 percent of average recorded on December 1.

Colorado NRCS Announces $12 Million in Funding for 2013 Farm and  Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP)

Colorado Natural Resources Conservation Service State Conservationist Phyllis Ann Philipps announced the availability of $12 million in funding for landowners to participate in the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP) in Colorado. Application packages are due on Monday, April 1, 2013 by 4:00 p.m. for funding consideration.

“NRCS will be targeting $10 million of the $12 million received toward easement properties that will protect sage-grouse habitat in Colorado,” said Philipps. “This provides a unique opportunity to help private landowners proactively, and voluntarily, work to prevent sage-grouse from being listed under the Endangered Species Act.”
