It's called Senior Wheels and it offers transportation for county residents over fifty-five. "Going to get a haircut, going to the barber shop, what if a friend passes away and you just want to go to the visitation, or your loved ones in a nursing facility, you'd just get in a car and go and visit, but that's not possible for everybody," explains those with the program. The program is funded by a onetime grant from the Washington County Commissioners.

Students have been working in a “Grow Dome” for several months as part of their agricultural curriculum, headed by Miguel Santistevan and with the help of his Agricultural Implementation, Research and Education (AIRE) group. The dome was constructed last fall with the help of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps and funding from AmeriCorps and the Kellogg Foundation, according to information from the Youth Corps.

Monday, the state honorees will visit the Walker-Jones Education Campus, where they will present books and hold reading sessions for local elementary school students. At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Corporation for National and Community Service CEO Wendy Spencer will announce the country’s top ten youth volunteers for 2012, who will be rewarded with $10,000 in cash awards and grants from the Prudential Foundation.
