Believe it or not, there are government apps ready to assist citizens during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!
Here are some common Turkey Day scenarios with the apps that can help:
- Thanksgiving Travel– If you are traveling by plane, you can check MyTSA developed by theTransportation Security Administration to find airport wait times, items you can bring on a plane and other related info. If you are traveling by bus, use Saferbus from the Department of Transportation to check the safety record and other information about the bus company you use.
- Thanksgiving Feast Shopping–Those looking to make the safest yet most delicious Thanksgiving dinner should check out Ask Karen. Developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service, Ask Karen provides 24/7 virtual assistance and tips on preventing food illnesses, food safety and food preparation. Ask Karen will give you helpful information regarding how to prepare a turkey or other food for your Thanksgiving feast.
- Post Thanksgiving Feast Health– Check the waist-line damage from that Thanksgiving feast with BMI Calculator. This mobile application from NIH’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute provides results right on your phone along with links to healthy weight resources.
You can find more government apps like the ones above at Apps.USA.gov and read about all things Mobile Gov.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey thanks for the blog piece. There are a lot of apps on travel these days. I wonder if there is any Travel Apps for RVs. I work for a RV dealership and we sell RVs in Florida and I think that would be really cool.

I love that picture. What would we do without the apps that we take for granted?
