The Internship Program at the Federal Executive Board of Minnesota is an effective first step for current college students and alumni to gain experience in government work. Interns at the Federal Executive Board of Minnesota gain valuable, hands-on experience that employers in both the public and private sectors seek in their employees. The positions are unpaid but have very flexible hours. Interns typically work between one and three days a week and must work a minimum of sixteen hours per month. Internships are offered year round, for varying lengths of time. If you are interested in applying please inquire about internship openings a few months before your desired start date.

Intern Responsibilities

The Federal Executive Board of Minnesota is managed by Executive Director Ray Morris and Assistant Executive Director Alyssa Poucher. Ray and Alyssa rely heavily on the interns to help with different tasks on a daily basis. If you are interested in the government and want to know more about how it functions and really appreciate how intricately it operates, then this is great place to start. You will get great opportunities to network with high ranking government officials from different agencies. You will also acquire skills that will be valuable in your search for post-internship employment.

General Office Duties

  • Assisting callers and responding to e-mails.
  • Attending meetings.
  • Filing, upkeep, and office maintenance.
  • Maintenance of the FEB Website and other basic IT upkeep.
  • Periodically getting the mail and watering the plants.

Roles on Past Projects

  • Development of tabletop exercises.
  • Emergency preparedness information dissemination.
  • Create standard operating procedures.
  • Develop newsletters and other publications.
  • Create poster display banner for job fairs.
  • Take meeting minutes and participate in discussion when appropriate.
  • Assist with logistics of event planning.
  • Organize information, update and edit documents
  • Generate and tabulate surveys.
  • Attend luncheons and other social events.
