Assessing Skill Levels and Core Competencies with the Assessment and electronic Individual Development Plan (eIDP)

Individuals interested in attaining one of the certifications offered in the FM school will be asked to complete an assessment for their occupation.  Once completed, the assessment will indicate their skill level and note areas of knowledge that they would need to effectively fulfil their job responsibilities.  The assessment results will be transferred to an electronic Individual Development plan (eIDP), which would be used to determine the appropriate courses individuals must take in order to fill the knowledge gap.  Individuals can use the eIDP to initiate a discussion with their supervisors about taking specific courses within the FM school.

The eIDP is intended to:
  • Encourage individuals to take ownership of their professional development.
  • Provide a mechanism for identifying and tracking developmental needs and plans.
  • Assist the VA Acquisition Academy (VAAA) in planning for the training and development of staff and contractors.
Note:  The eIDP is not a performance evaluation tool.  Its primary purpose is to help employees reach short- and long-term goals and improve current job performance.  It is not part of a performance appraisal, nor can it be used in rating performance.
