Digital video offers several opportunities to enhance a lesson.

Take a journey to our nation's estuaries by using the video clips in the Estuary Video Gallery! The shortest video clip is about one minute long and the longest one is close to ten minutes. As single-concept, phenomenon or process-specific video clip, these video resources are better suited to attract, engage, and inspire today's students. But, before you present any of these videos we highly recommend that you preview them on our site and decide which one best meets your instructional needs.

The video clips on the Video Gallery can be used to support learning of the various Estuaries Literacy Principles & Concepts. All video clips can be easily downloaded in either Windows Media or Quick Time formats, as long as they are used in educational settings.

The video clips can also be used as supplementary material to the Estuaries 101 Curriculum activities. To help teachers with this objective, we have created a series of E-Live backpacks which include all of the materials that students need to complete and evaluate their field trip-inspired project to an estuary. Students are asked to review the materials in the student backpacks, to construct their own compelling questions, actively research those questions, share their learning through final products, and evaluate their work and its impact. By going through these steps, you will lead students through a project-based learning experience. Such a model in using the video clips from this EstuaryLive Video Gallery situates the learning in a real context and help students gain a sense of these estuarine places and their connection to them to develop an ecological identity. We encourage all teachers to choose from the Video Gallery to pack “backpacks” for their own classess. The design of these learning experiences is based on Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy and Daniel Pink’s important book, A Whole, New Mind.
