CONGRESSIONAL TASK FORCE ON CHILDHOOD OBESITY RESPONDS TO WHITE HOUSE REPORT ON CHILDHOOD OBESITY

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, First Lady Michelle Obama joined Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes and members of the White House Childhood Obesity Task Force to unveil the Task Force action plan: Solving the Problem of Childhood Obesity Within a Generation.

Co-chairs of the recently launched Congressional Task Force on Childhood Obesity released the following statements after the report's release:

"As we previously announced, our Congressional Task Force will host a series of briefings and events with national organizations to educate Members of Congress, their staffs, and the public on the many ways to address childhood obesity. I'm thrilled that the Administration has committed itself to doing the same," said Rep. Fudge. “If we work together we can coordinate our efforts to ensure that every American child, no matter where he or she lives, will have the resources to live long and healthy lives."

“Our children should have all the necessary tools to live healthy lives and develop good habits that will serve them into adulthood," commented Rep. Reichert. "I look forward to evaluating the Childhood Obesity Task Force Action Plan to determine how we can work together in the future.”

“I am pleased that the Administration has made it a priority to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic in this country,” said Rep. Kind.  “The plans announced by the White House task force and the First Lady today build on the goals and initiatives of our own Congressional Childhood Obesity Task Force to help us empower families to get our kids moving and teach them healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”

"I look forward to reviewing the White House's Childhood Obesity Action Plan.  This is an opportunity to begin dialogue about how to encourage healthy behavior.  It's important that our children have the tools they need to lead healthy lifestyles as they grow to be healthy adults," said Rep. Tiberi.
