Major Andrew P. Young is the commander of the Syracuse Military Entrance Processing Station.

Major Young received his commission through the ROTC program at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. His first duty assignment was at Fort Carson, Colo., where he served with Foxtrot Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment as a Tank Platoon Leader and later as a Scout Platoon Leader. He was next assigned to Fort Knox, Ky., where he served with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment as company Executive Officer, then with Charlie Company, 46th Adjutant General Batallion as company Executive Officer, and later with 46th Adjutant General Battalion as battalion Operations Officer. His next assignment was to Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., where he served with 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations, Aviation Regiment (Airborne) as Battalion Human Resource Officer. He was next assigned to Fort Drum, N.Y., 277th Aviation Support Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade as Battalion Human Resource Officer; then with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade as Company Commander; and later with 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Light) as Brigade Human Resource Officer.

His professional military education includes Airborne School, Armor Officer Basic Course, M1A2 Tank Certification, Maintenance Leader's Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Course, and Adjutants General Career Course. He has also earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Purdue University.

Major Young's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and various unit and service medals and ribbons. He has also earned the Parachutist Badge and Gold German Efficiency Badge.
