Information, Research & Communications
The Embassy has an extended reference, research and news service administered by the Information, Research & Communications Section (IRC) under Public Affairs.
The IRC assists both the general public and the Embassy’s audience. With our specialized knowledge of the United States, we can help you find an answer to a U.S. related question or point you in the right direction for further information.
Please Note: The IRC only answers reference and research questions.
We do not answer questions that have to do with:
- Visas
- Visa appointments
- Green Cards / immigration into the US
- Work permits
- Driver's licenses
- Validity of marriages
These are answered by the Consular Section
If you are an American citizen moving to or living in Denmark, please go to the American Citizen Service.
If you are looking for friends or relatives in the U.S. or in Denmark please see our FAQ's on that subject. The Embassy CANNOT assist you in locating friends or relatives.
If you are traveling to the US as a tourist and have questions about what to see and where to go please see our Traveling in the US pages. The IRC CANNOT help you with tourism related questions.
If you have questions about sending products or gifts to the US or bringing specific items, e.g. food or medicine into the US please visit the US Customs and Border Protection webiste.

You can contact the IRC on phone no. 33 41 71 00. You are welcome to call us, but we recommend that you send an email and that you make your inquiry as detailed as possible.
Please send your reference and research questions by e-mail to: CopenhagenIRC@state.gov.
Please do not write generic subject lines like "Question" or "Important". To make sure your question is read please fill out the subject line as follows: "Full Name, Question subject". Example: "John Doe, Question about Abraham Lincoln".

Depending on our workload and the nature of your question please allow up to four weeks before we provide an answer. Do not send urgent questions or inquiries to the IRC. We answer questions on a 'first come first served basis'.
The IRC does not answer inquiries concerning visas, immigration, citizenship matters, driver's licenses, validity of marriages etc. All such inquiries must be made to the Consular Section or, if you are a U.S. citizen, the Citizen Service.
Embassy Speakers - Visits to the Embassy
If you are part of a group, e.g. a high school class, and you would like to visit the embassy and hear about what goes on in here please contact the IRC via the above email for further details. Again, please be as specific as possible, regarding your request. Specify the type of event, approximate dates/times, subjects you wish to discuss and the number of people involved.
Primary or Secondary teachers and students

Do you have a good idea for an event or a cultural program?
The US Embassy/Public Affairs Section welcomes written unsolicited proposals for funding for cultural programs or other public events. Any such unsolicited proposals received by the embassy will be reviewed and/or selected, according to program needs and funding availability.
