Mission Statement

The 3D MEB maintains a forward presence in the US Pacific Command (USPACOM) area of responsibility (AOR) and conducts combined operations exercises and training throughout the region to support III MEF's theater security cooperation plan in order to strengthen alliance relationships and enhance regional security. On order, 3D MEB conducts crisis response/consequence management as directed by III MEF in order to mitigate regional insecurity.

As waves crash onto the beach in Sattahip, Kingdom of Thailand, one may see the ocean as a way to escape the intense heat, but that does not quite quench their thirst. However, U.S. Marines from 3rd Marine Logistics Group turn the salty liquid into hydrating fresh water.

U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Erick M. Mechelhoff prepares a generator Feb. 10 in Sattahip, Kingdom of Thailand, that will power the tactical water purification system to support operations during exercise Cobra Gold 2013. The exercise includes humanitarian and civic assistance projects, a staff exercise and field training exercises. Joint and multinational training is vital to maintaining the readiness and interoperability of all participating military forces. Mechelhoff is a basic electrician with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group III Marine Expeditionary Force.

A suction hose moves water pulled from the ocean to the tactical water purification system where the salt will be removed and it will pass through a series of filters making it safe to drink. U.S. Marines from 3rd Marine Logistics Group purified saltwater Feb. 10 to provide clean water to multinational participants at various locations throughout Thailand during exercise Cobra Gold 2013. Cobra Gold, in its 32nd iteration, is a multinational exercise that promotes regional prosperity, security and cooperation among partner militaries. 3rd MLG is part of III Marine Expeditionary Force.
