Allender Appointed Acting HRED Director

Dr. Laurel Allender

ARL Director John Miller recently announced the appointment of Dr. Laurel Allender as the Acting Director of the Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED).

Allender will also take over the duties and responsibilities of leadership of the Human Dimension and Training Technology Focus Team (TFT).

Before this announcement, Allender had recently been named the chief of the Soldier Performance Division of HRED.

She has been with ARL since its inception and over her career has worked in the field at Fort Bliss, Texas, in Alexandria, Va., and at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. She received her Ph.D. in applied experimental and cognitive psychology from Rice University in 1987. Her research interests include cognitive and social aspects of network science, research and development of human behavior representations, cognitive neuroscience, and human-robot-team interaction.

Outside ARL, she is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) and served as chair of the Conference on Behavior Representation in Modeling & Simulation (BRIMS).
