Two ARL women recognized at APG's Federal Women's Program

Two U.S. Army Research Laboratory employees were recognized at the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) Federal Women's Program Awards event that was held August 21.
Pamela Fry from the Laboratory Operations Directorate was recognized as the 2012 Supervisor/Manager of the Year, and Dr. Asha Hall from the Vehicle Technology Directorate (VTD) was recognized as the 2012 Outstanding Woman of the Year.
Fry was recognized for continuously encouraging women to further their education and nominating them for long-term training and developmental assignments. She attends and encourages the workforce to attend functions in support of women. She acts as a mentor to provide positive guidance to female employees within or outside of the organization. In addition, Fry assures that women within the organization are represented on boards, committees and panels, and are allowed special assignments. Fry ensures that women are recognized for their accomplishments by nominating them for monetary and honorary awards.
"Pam is the finest supervisor I have ever had the privilege to know and work with in my 27 years of government service." said Teresa Kines, associate director for laboratory operations. "I see the care she takes to develop her staff on a daily basis as she counsels, mentors and takes action to improve the work environment for all while making great strides for our mission support. She certainly has a positive impact on the employment, professional development and advancement of her entire staff and all who she associates with at APG."
Fry gives credit to her team.
"I am honored and humbled to receive this award," said Fry. "I have a great team, and I am proud of all we accomplish together."
Hall is an active member of Women in Defense, a National Security Organization, and she is also an active member of the Society of Women Engineers. She serves as a mentor, and inspires others to reach new standards. Hall volunteers to go into the schools to educate children on robotics and engineering, and she also works with college level engineering students during summer internships at VTD. Hall has authored or coauthored 13 scientific publications including seven scientific journal articles, and she has served as a presenter at more than 10 professional scientific conferences including the U.S. Military Academy Symposium.
"Asha's exemplary leadership, mentorship and contributions to the advancement of women in education, science and engineering are outstanding," said Raymond Brennan, Weapons and Materials Research Directorate.
Hall was thankful to the APG Federal Women's Program for this honor.
"It is very humbling to be selected for this prestigious award as 'Outstanding Woman of the Year,'" said Hall. "As a professional woman in science, it has always been my goal to give back to the community. I feel that it is my duty and responsibility to support the advancement of women and to educate and mentor our students."
As ARL's acting director, Dr. John Pellegrino couldn't be more proud of his staff.
"I give hearty congratulations to both Pam and Asha – very well-deserved recognition indeed," said Pellegrino.
