WYDOT seeks input for airport economic impact study

If you or your business benefit from one of Wyoming’s airports, WYDOT’s Aeronautics Division needs your story.

The division is conducting research to measure and report how airports benefit businesses, agencies, residents and other groups in Wyoming.

The researchers are seeking input from employers and individuals throughout Wyoming who may be improving their efficiency, enhancing their economic viability or supporting their operations through the use of a Wyoming airport.

“If you benefit by having customers or suppliers fly to Wyoming, or if you have employees who improve their efficiency by using commercial airline service in Wyoming, your response is critical to our research,” said Christy Yaffa, planning and programming manager for the Aeronautics Division.

She encouraged everyone in the state who uses a Wyoming airport for scheduled commercial airline service, flights on privately owned general-aviation aircraft or for overnight shipping or air freight to participate in the study.

Trucks prohibited from passing on I-80 section in some conditions

WYDOT is studying a driving lane restriction for large commercial trucks on a high-elevation section of Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne.

Tractor-trailer combinations will be restricted to the right lane only when visibility is poor resulting in the speed limit being reduced to 65 mph or less.

The study area consists of I-80 between the Summit Interchange (exit 323) and the Harriman Road Interchange (exit 342). The restriction affects both eastbound and westbound traffic.

Electronic message signs will advise drivers when the restriction is in effect.

The study is being undertaken in response to inquiries from legislators in recent years and during the current session about possible steps that could be taken to reduce crashes during winter storms.

It will help determine if the restriction is an effective means to improve visibility for the motoring public on I-80 when blowing snow requires posting a reduced speed limit.
