Career Description

Air Force pilots and crew are some of the best in the world. Not only must they train and perform to exacting standards, but they must also overcome the physiological stresses of flight. Aerospace Physiologists make sure they do that by training aircrews to handle everything from extreme G-forces to bailing out at high altitudes. Additionally, they study the effects of flight on the body in order to develop training and treatment programs and keep our aircrews on top.

Career Tasks

• Dig deep into the complex and unique field of physiology, human factors and human performance
• Train selected biomedical sciences corps officers in a course of instruction leading to designation as an Air Force aerospace physiology officer. The program is designed to develop the skills and self-confidence essential for optimal support of the Air Force aerospace physiology program
• Educational training in hypobaric chamber operations, aeromedical aspects of flight, sensory physiology, aviation life-support systems, acceleration physiology, emergency egress, aircraft mishap investigation concepts and Airman performance optimization

Becoming a Direct Commission Officer

To ease your transition into the Air Force, you'll enter a five-week training regimen designed to educate you on the ways of both the military and military healthcare. You'll participate in physical conditioning five days a week, leadership training and classroom studies.
