Deputy Mission Director Jason Fraser
Mr. Jason Fraser began his career at USAID as a legal officer in the office of the General Counsel in 2001. Mr. Fraser was the legal officer responsible for the Latin America and Caribbean region. Following his tenure in the General Counsel’s Office, Mr. Fraser became the regional legal advisor for USAID’s regional program for Southern Africa (RCSA), from 2003-2007, based in Gaborone, Botswana. Mr. Fraser provided legal, regulatory, and policy counsel to several USAID missions in Southern Africa including Botswana, Namibia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Subsequently, Mr. Fraser became the Supervisory Regional Legal Advisor for the Caribbean region based in the Dominican Republic and provided legal, regulatory advice to the mission management in the DR, Haiti, Jamaica, Guyana and for the Caribbean regional program based in Barbados. Mr. Fraser is currently Deputy Mission Director at USAID/Ethiopia where he directly oversees programs in Health, Education, Agriculture, Economic Growth, and Democracy and Governance with a portfolio of over $800 million. Mr. Fraser also has direct supervision over the Administrative functions of the mission.
Prior to joining USAID, Mr. Fraser was an associate at the law firm of Peabody and Arnold, LLP based in Boston, Massachusetts (1999-2000) and Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft, LLP based in New York (1998-1999) where he practiced real estate financing, development and securitization law.
Mr. Fraser has a law degree from the Columbia University School of Law, a Master’s Degree in International Affairs (African Affairs) from the Columbia University School for International Affairs (SIPA) and a Bachelor’s Degree for Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine. Mr. Fraser is from Lawrence, Massachusetts and is married to Naledi Norwebb-Fraser.
