The Korean Blitz
The 1950's was the trial by fire for the young service and Lackland AFB. When the Korean War began in June 1950, the draft started up soon after and Lackland experienced a deluge of young men eager to join the new service.
At the time, Lackland AFB was the only indoctrination base for Air Force enlisted personnel. However, the base could only accomodate a load of around 20,000 with a permanent party of 5,000. This proved not enough to deal with the 84,000 people on the base by mid 1951.
