Passport Application

American citizens residing or traveling abroad who require a U.S. passport are issued the latest state-of-the-art passports that incorporate photo-digitized images and other enhanced security features. These passports are produced at a domestic U.S. passport facility. This increases processing times, but the Department is committed to ensuring that American citizens receive secure documents in a timely manner. American citizens are encouraged to apply early for renewal of expiring passports. It generally takes two weeks to obtain a passport.

The Embassy wishes to remind all U.S. citizens that U.S. law requires all U.S. citizens, including dual-national citizens, to enter the United States using their U.S. passport.  We urge all U.S. citizens to keep their U.S. passports current.

Effective June 11, 2012, fees will change for various passport services offered by the U.S. Embassy.  Please carefully read the instructions for the service you are requesting to ensure that you know the new fee.

                                            IMPORTANT:

  • Not all Passport Applications require a visit to the Embassy. Please read about the passport service you need to see if a visit to the Embassy is required.
  • All visits to the US Embassy for Passport Applications require an appointment.
  • All application forms must be completed prior to the appointment. Applicants with incomplete forms can be turned away.

U.S. Embassies and Consulates will continue to issue passports in emergency cases. However, emergency passports will be limited in validity and cannot be extended. Bearers will be required to exchange their limited validity passports for full-validity photo-digitized passports upon completion of their emergency travel, either through a passport facility in the U.S. or a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.

New Passport Regulations for children under 16 are effective from Feb 1, 2008
