11/22/2011 - ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam  -- Staff Sgt. Jason Smith, 36th Wing chapel program support non-commissioned officer-in-charge, was awarded Andersen's Best here, Nov. 17.

Sergeant Smith led the way on new chapel renovations of more than $5 million in construction for three of the chapel facilities, enhancing the chapel's ability to provide outstanding services to the entire military community on Andersen.

He also ensured the continued success of chapel programs by reviewing and coordinating 12 chapel contracts totaling $124 thousand.

"Sergeant Jason Smith is responsible for all chapel funding and contracts valued at $500 thousand in Chapel Tithes and Offerings as well as appropriated funds and all facility maintenance and scheduling for four chapel facilities valued at $1.2 million," said Lt. Col. Donnette Boyd, 36th Wing chaplain. "Sergeant Smith also serves as the Chapel Exercise Evaluator and the key point of contact for all information and technology systems within the four chapel facilities. He is the backbone of the spiritual care provided for Team Andersen."


Sergeant Smith's also volunteered nine hours for Airmen Against Drunk Driving, saving six Airmen from possible fatal mishaps.

Andersen's Best is a recognition program which highlights a top performer from the 36th Wing. Each week, supervisors nominate a member of their team for outstanding performance and the wing commander presents the selected Airman/Civilian with an award.
