Committees
Much of the work that goes into crafting laws and overseeing government operations takes place in committees. These committee assignments allow me to continue working to grow and strengthen the middle class through education, economic opportunity, and investment that reflects our values of fairness and shared responsibility. Access to a quality, affordable education, a fair and livable wage, and the prospect of a secure retirement are critical national priorities.
- Creating a repsonsible federal budget is key to revitalizing our economy and building a strong foundation for future generations. The Committee analyzes the President’s budget recommendations and reconciles it with Congressional priorities to craft legislation that will chart all federal government expenditures.
Committee on Education and the Workforce
-
The Committee on Education and the Workforce oversees federal programs and initiatives dealing with education at all levels, from preschool through high school to higher education and continuing education. It is expected to take up legislation to rewrite No Child Left Behind in the 113th Congress. The Committee also holds jurisdiction over workforce initiatives aimed at strengthening health care, job training, and retirement security for workers.
