April: The Basic Military Training School ended a marksmanship orientation test and implemented a policy of deferring M-16 qualification training to Airmen's first permanent duty station, which was more cost effective. School leaders decided to continue awarding the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon to trainees who fired expert scores on the orientation course.
