Announcements typically run for two weeks beginning two weeks prior to an event. Submissions must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday to be included in the weekly bulletin e-mail sent on Wednesday. NO FEDERAL ENDORSEMENT OF PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS OR ACTIVITIES IS INTENDED.

NOTICES
Announcement from UMUC
University of Maryland University College Asia is now accepting registration for Fall Session 1 and 2. Fall Session 1 starts Aug. 22 for face-to-face and Aug. 29 for online classes. There are two classes being offered on Camp Shields, ECON 201 and HIST 156. Camp Shields is located less than five minutes from Kadena Gate 3. A SPCH 100 unit course is now open to all students. The class meets twice a week for an hour and a half each class. Class will be held at the 18th Component Maintenance Squadron, Building 782, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:10 to 6 p.m. To register for the class, sign in at http://my.umuc.edu then click "My Academics"-> "Registration/Enrollment" -> "2011 Fall" ->"add Class."

Joint Services Committee Pink Dress, Purple Tie Gala
A Joint Services Committee Pink Dress, Purple Tie Helping Hands gala is Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the NCO Rocker Club. The event raises awareness for breast cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The dress will be semi-formal, pink or purple attire, with a buffet assortment. Cost per ticket is $25. Free tickets for Eisa Festival
There are 300 free entrance tickets for Status of Forces Agreement personnel to attend the island-wide Eisa Festival, or Okinawa Zento Eisa Matsui. SOFA personnel who wish to get a free ticket to see the traditional Eisa-dancing at the Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20, need to fill in the questionnaire at the ticket office between 3 and 6 p.m. on event day and show their SOFA ID. Tickets are first come, first serve. The festival will take place at the Koza Athletic Park located near Expressway Exit 4, near Gate 2, in Okinawa City.

Holiday lottery drawings rescheduled at clubs
Due to the Operational Readiness Inspection, the Kadena Clubs need to reschedule the holiday lottery drawings originally scheduled for Aug. 18. The new date is Aug. 25. Time and location, 3 p.m. in the Officers' Club Daedalian Room, remain the same.

Parking at Schilling Center
The 18th Wing Plans office directs the relocation of vehicles parked behind the barricades at the Schilling Center for the duration of the Operational Readiness Inspection. The Schilling parking lot will remain restricted to non- Pacific Air Forces Inspector General vehicles behind the barricades. For any questions, feel free to call the 18th Wing Command Post.

Air Force OSI seeking Special Agent candidates
Join us during the monthly recruitment meetings held the last Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. at the Office of Special Investigations Detachment 624, Building 705, on Kadena Air Base.

Interested in the field of computer forensics/investigations? Specialists in that field will be available to answer questions during this month's briefing, Aug. 25. Qualified applicants are encouraged to attend. For specifics on eligibility requirements and how to apply, contact your local OSI detachment at 634-5165 or visit www.osi.andrews.af.mil.  

Gate 5 re-opening
Gate 5 will re-open Aug. 29, the first day of school. Gate 5 hours of operation are from 6:15 to 8:45 a.m. and 1:15 to 4:45 p.m. Monday-Friday when school is in session. Only vehicles involved in school activities are allowed to enter and exit the installation through Gate 5. This includes school buses, dropping off and picking up school children, and Department of Defense Dependents Schools employees going to and from work. Traffic not affiliated with school activities will be re-directed to one of the routine installation entry control points such as Gate 1, 2, or 3.

New PDG
There have been several questions regarding the new Professional Development Guide. Please be advised, examinees testing for E-9 in September 2011 will use the 2009 PDG. Examinees testing for E-8 in December 2011 will use the 2011 PDG. Issue of the new PDGs is expected on or about Oct. 1. 2011 E-9 WAPS promotion testing cycle
For the 2011 E-9 Weighted Airman Promotion System promotion testing cycle Sept. 6 to 9, E-8 members eligible to test for E-9 should receive their assigned date no later than Aug.19. Be advised, the 2009 Professional Development Guide is the appropriate study material. For questions, e-mail 18fss.fsdmttesting@kadena.af.mil.

18th MDG closed for training
The 18th Medical Group is closed for readiness training from noon to 5 p.m. the third Thursday of every month. Our next closure will be Aug. 18. Patients with threats to life, limb or eyesight should call 911 or report to the emergency room at Lester Naval Hospital on Camp Lester. Patients needing acute medical or dental advice should call 630-4817.

18th MUNS to conduct 100-percent munitions inventory
The 18th Munitions Squadron storage area will conduct a 100-percent munitions inventory Aug. 22 through Sept. 30. Emergency issues will be the only transactions processed during this time frame. Schilling Center to resume driver's education courses
The Schilling Center will resume driver's education courses for the Armed Forces community on Okinawa in September. Three courses will be available, one full course for first-time drivers, and two refresher courses for drivers with expired Status of Forces Agreement licenses and non-U.S. sponsored SOFA dependents with foreign country licensing. Attendance in either refresher course depends on the non-U.S. sponsored SOFA dependents' country of licensing. Cost for the full course is $250. Cost for the two-hour refresher course is $40.Cost for the three-hour refresher course is $60. In addition, for $20 an hour, individuals can practice driving with one of the certified instructors.

Exact course dates are to be determined. Beginning Sept. 1, individuals needing to take the driver's education course can register at the Schilling Center. Priority will be given to those individuals who signed up for a class that was canceled earlier in the year. Extended hours for CDC and SAP
The Child Development Centers and School-Age Program facilities will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting Aug. 17 for the Operational Readiness Inspection. Family Child Care providers are also available for extended duty care to cover evening, overnight and early morning needs. If the inspection extends into Saturday, care will be available and provided at the Shima No Ko SAP and Wakaba CDC. Information on how to sign up is being provided to all CDC and SAP patrons by the staffs at each facility.

Mega case lot sale at commissary
The Kadena Commissary is holding a mega case lot sale Sept. 16, 17 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the commissary or call 634-1413.

A&FRC collecting food for families
The Airman and Family Readiness Center, located in Building 220, is participating in the Feds Feed Families Campaign, a canned-food drive to support military families. All donations of non-perishable food items can be made at the A&FRC until Aug. 25. Items donated will go to benefit the Stork's Nest at Lester Naval Hospital.

Kadena Civilian Personnel U.S. Staffing section closed
The Kadena Civilian Personnel U.S. Staffing section will be closed Aug. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. for an official function. Civilian Personnel U.S. Staffing will re-open for appointments at 12:30 p.m. the same day.

2011 Air Force Athlete of the Year Award nominations
The Risner Fitness Center staff is soliciting nominations to recognize an Air Force Male and Female Athlete of the Year. This year's winning athletes will be announced at the annual Air Force Fitness and Sports Awards Ceremony at the Air Force Fitness Program Managers' Training, Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 29 to 30.

Anyone interested in submitting a nomination packet, please e-mail narita.meana@kadena.af.mil for packet details or call 634-5128. All nomination packets are due to the fitness center director no later than Sept. 23.

Spots still open for youth soccer and volleyball
Kadena Youth Sports and Fitness still has spots available for their upcoming seasons for ages 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 for soccer and ages 12-15 for volleyball.

Airmen Helping Airmen 5K Fundraiser postponed
The Airmen Helping Airmen 5K has been postponed due to the no-notice Operational Readiness Inspection. The fundraiser will resume at a to-be-determined date.

Furnishings Management Office positions available
The Kadena Family Housing Office is looking for four highly motivated staff sergeants to immediately fill vacant Furnishings Management Office positions.

Applicants must possess the rank of staff sergeant, have a minimum of one year experience as a supervisor, possess leadership and mentorship capability, and should not have any record of emotional instability, disciplinary actions or financial irresponsibility. Applicants must possess the ability to speak distinctly and to all levels of rank, possess high standards of military appearance and conduct, and have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, supply, accounting and facility maintenance procedures and management of personnel. Individuals must have nine months remaining on their Date Eligible to Return from Overseas and are not receiving payment from an Selective Re-enlistment Bonus. This is a two-year controlled, non-deployable tour.

Protestant Women of the Chapel fall Bible study kick-off
Join the Protestant Women of the Chapel Sept. 6 from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. at Chapel 3 on Kadena for the fall session of Bible study, fellowship and fun! PWOC Kadena is a ministry of Kadena Chapel, but we warmly welcome women associated with all branches of government to include all services, Department of Defense civilians and Department of Defense Education Activity employees. Air Force Ball
In celebration of the U.S. Air Force's 64th birthday, Kadena Air Base will hold its annual Air Force Ball on Sept. 17at 6 p.m. at the Rocker NCO Club. The Air Force Ball is an annual service-wide tradition to celebrate the heritage and history of the Air Force. This year the 18th Wing brings a new and exciting fun-filled social event. Contact an Air Force Ball group representative for tickets.

Banyan Tree golf tournament
On Sept. 8, there will be a golf tournament at the Banyan Tree Golf Course in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the "Wounded Warrior Project." The tournament will be a "Scramble" style event with a 7 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $50 per person, $200 per four-person team. There will be a "Longest Drive" and "Closest to the Pin" contest. Once all golfing is completed, the Tee House will cater food and awards andprizes will be presented. All teams must be signed up and paid for no later than Aug. 30. Get Only the first 18 teams can sign up.

This event is a great way to honor and support service members who have been injured since Sept. 11, 2001.

Hazardous waste accumulation point manager's class
The next Hazardous Waste Accumulation Point Manager's class will be Aug. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Building 3621. Registration will start at 8 a.m. Registration requires a HWAP number, rank, name, organization and phone number.

Pre-register and get first preference for limited seating by e-mailing information to richard.whittier@kadena.af.mil. Attendees need a current appointment letter from their squadron commander when they get to the class. We only have drinks for sale so participants should bring snacks.

Second-annual Torch Club fundraiser dinner
Kadena's Youth Center is having their second-annual Torch Club fundraiser on Aug. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. The fundraiser is open to all and pre-registration is recommended. All proceeds will go to St. Jude's Children Hospital. For more details, please call 634-0500.

Stress Management Day
The Health and Wellness Center and Family Advocacy are hosting a Stress Management Day Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the HAWC. A stretch and flex activity outside on the lawn will kick the day off, and a stress management workshop will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The United Services Organization mobile unit will be on site throughout the day and food will be available. Participants can learn how to better manage stress in a fun environment.

Firefighters Association softball tournament
The Kadena Firefighters Association is sponsoring a 12-team, double-elimination bracket softball tournament Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the four diamonds complex on Kadena. It is open to any team island-wide. ASA rules apply. Food and drinks will be sold on site. The first-place team will receive a trophy.

Earth Week Committee meeting

Women's Equality Day quiz
People interested in participating in a Women's Equality Day quiz can search for the answers to the questions posted on the Kadena Home page Aug. 15 to 19 and submit answers to womensequalityday@hotmail.com.

The subject line of the email must read "WED quiz answers." The e-mail should contain the answers in the correct order and must include the participant's first and last name and phone number. The first five people to submit the quiz with the correct answers will receive a $15 Army and Air Force Exchange Services gift card.

The quiz closes at noon Aug. 19. Winners will be notified by e-mail and phone by Aug. 19 at 5 p.m.

Initial Contracting Officer's Representative training
The 18th Contracting Squadron is conducting Initial Contracting Officer's Representative training Aug. 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kadena Education Center, Building 59, Room 125A. MarriageLinks workshop
A Marriage Links workshop hosted by the 733rd Air Mobility Squadron takes place Sept. 21 to 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. each night. It will be held at Gate 3 of the Air Mobility Command Passenger Terminal. This workshop, Falling in Love is Easy...Staying in Love is an Art, is designed to help keep relationships strong.

Volunteers needed for Kadena Special Olympics bowling event
The Kadena Special Olympics bowling event scheduled for Sept. 17 at Seaside Mihama needs 55 volunteers who can work from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers must have their own transportation to get to Seaside Mihama in American Village. Volunteers can be military or family members. Interested individuals can e-mail 1st Lt. Jamie Davis at Jamie.davis@kadena.af.mil.

Soccer and volleyball coaches needed
Kadena Youth Sports and Fitness is looking for volunteer coaches for their upcoming youth soccer and volleyball season. Soccer coaches are needed for age groups 5-6, 7- 8, 9-10, and 13-15. Volleyball coaches are needed for age groups 9-11 and 12-15. The season will run from Sept. 6 to Nov. 19.
