State Pledges NOTU Support

Florida Lieutenant Gov. Jennifer Carroll, introduces Florida Gov. Rick Scott at the Tides Club last week. Gov. Scott announced the State’s $5 million contribution for the U.S. Navy upgrades and refurbishing to its missile testing facility at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The Navy’s new operation, called Strategic Weapons System Ashore, will convert two of the station’s 1950s-era launch complexes, No’s. 25 and 29, into modern test stands and provide the Navy with a single, landbased facility for creating submarine missile systems. AFSPC Leadership Visit

Gen. William L. Shelton, commander, Air Force Space Command, gets a hearty handshake from 45th Medical Group Red Cross volunteer Lillian Hamlin, during the commander’s visit to the Wing Monday. 45th Space Wing Red Cross volunteers donated more than 17,000 hours last year. Gen. Shelton and Chief Master Sergeant Linus Jordan, Command Chief Master Sergeant, Air Force Space Command, landed at the Patrick Airstrip Sunday evening, and after a series of briefings Monday morning, toured the new Bowling Center (which will celebrate their Grand Opening 11 a.m. June 26), the Security Forces Squadron and the newly renovated 45th Medical Group clinic. 10th Air Force commander awards coin to 920th RQW Reservist for heroic actions

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Maj. Gen. Frank Padilla (right), 10th Air Force commander, awards a coin to Master Sgt. Kenneth Swainston, a 920th Rescue Wing traditional Reservist, at Hangar 750 here Sept. 11, 2011. Swainston received the coin for helping local law enforcement rescue a stabbing victim from a car in the Indian River in Melbourne, Fla., just a few miles from the base.
