Lamborn Statement on Obama Moratorium

Today Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) released the following statement regarding President Obama’s newly announced energy strategy that will delay energy development and enact new production moratoria:

“I am discouraged by President Obama’s energy announcement this morning. Lease sales in Alaska that have been included in previous plans are now completely off the table as well as the energy-rich coastline of California.

Furthermore, leasing in the Outer Continental Shelf remains at a standstill. Last week, during a hearing of the Energy and Minerals Resources subcommittee, I asked Director of Mineral Management Services (MMS) Liz Birnbaum if she could assure the committee that a lease sale of any former moratoria areas would occur during President Obama’s administration. She could not make that guarantee.

At best, the administration continues to slow-walk energy development. At worst, it continues to expand a self-imposed energy crisis. America desperately needs a robust ‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy that utilizes our nation’s vast resources and generates thousands of American jobs.” – Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Congressman Lamborn is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources of the House Committee on Natural Resources.
