LTC Steven Delvaux
is an Infantry Officer who initially enlisted in the United States Army and completed Basic Combat Training at Ft. Leonard, Wood Missouri in 1983. In 1986 he was selected to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned into the United States Army after graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Management in 1990. LTC Delvaux has also received a Master’s of Arts in history at Florida State University in 1997.
LTC Delvaux’s assignments include rifle and mortar platoon leader, and company executive officer with the Berlin Brigade ; battalion logistical officer and rifle company commander with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault); assistant professor of Military History at West Point ; Commandant of Command Post TANGO in South Korea; 3rd Brigade Combat Team as the Brigade Logistical Officer, Battalion Executive Officer of 3-187th IN , Division Staff as the G5 Plans Officer with the 101st Airborne Division. Prior to assuming command of 3-13th Infantry Regiment, LTC Delvaux served as the Professor of Military Science at East Carolina University.
LTC Delvaux’s his decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC); Meritorious Service Medal with 5 OLCs; Army Commendation Medal with 1 OLC; Army Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation with 1 OLC; Army Superior Unit Award with 1 OLC; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal (2); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (3); Combat Infantryman’s Badge; Expert Infantryman’s Badge; Ranger Tab; Airborne Parachutist Badge; and Air Assault Badge.
LTC Delvaux is married; he and his wife have two sons.
Desk of the Battalion Commander Dear Family Members:
Your Soldier is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for Combat Training. Fort Jackson provides an excellent environment for training and has all the Soldier support facilities required to ensure a first rate experience for each Soldier while providing for their welfare. Our battalion will do our very best to take care of your soldier throughout this transition from civilian to warrior.
Basic Combat Training is a very intense experience. There are new physical and mental challenges every day as your Soldier progresses through this first phase of service to our nation. Supportive cards, letters and pictures from family members and friends help Soldiers overcome anxiety and offer encouragement. If you have not already, you will receive a letter or a phone call from your Soldier providing the mailing address.
Soldiers are not able to store food or other perishable items and are prohibited from using tobacco products so we ask that you refrain from mailing these items. We would ask that you stop sending mail 2 weeks prior to graduation, unless the mail is of an urgent nature. This will help prevent the delay of mail going to your Soldier as they move on to their Advanced Individual Training location. Training requirements keep your Soldier very busy and make routine phone calls difficult. Visits during the cycle are not allowed.
We hope you join us at Fort Jackson for graduation to recognize the significant accomplishment of Soldiers successfully completing this phase of their training. It is your Soldier’s responsibility to keep you informed of any changes in his/her graduation date because of their academic performance.
If the weather on Graduation Day is inclement (i.e. raining or snowing) the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Solomon Center. Due to limited seating capacity we will only graduate 2 companies at a time. The timeline will be published during Family Day.
It is our privilege to prepare young men and women for their role in defending our nation and we are dedicated to accomplishing our mission safely. SERGEANT MAJOR FRANK C. RAEL IV
Command Major Frank C. Rael was born in Fort Hood, TX . In 1990 enlisted in the United States Army and completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training as an 11B (Infantryman) at Fort Benning, Georgia.
His initial assignment was to HHC, 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, NY, where he served as a Scout Team Member and participated in Operation Restore Hope in 1992-1993. After Operation Restore Hope, he remained in 87th Infantry Regiment and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served as a Scout Team Leader.
In 1994 he participated in Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti. Soon after returning to Fort Drum, NY he was reassigned to HHC, 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and served as assistant Ammunitions NCO and later was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as Ranger Rifle Squad Leader in B. Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. In 1998 he was assigned to C. Company (Gimlets), 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (L) at Schofield Barracks, HI where he served as a Rifle Squad Leader. Later he was reassigned to C. Company (Wolf Hounds), 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division as Platoon Sergeant. In 2001 he was then assigned to 4th Ranger Training Battalion in Fort Benning, GA and served as a Ranger Instructor. While serving as a Ranger Instructor, he earned 3 “Instructor of the Cycle” by his Ranger students. From 2004-2012 he was assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. His first assignment was to HHC, 1st Battalion, 501 PIR where he served as an Operations NCO while deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom IV. Upon his return from Operation Enduring Freedom, he was assigned as Platoon Sergeant in B Company (Blackfoot) 1st Battalion, 501 PIR in Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. In June of 2006 the unit would be flagged and reassigned as part of 4th BCT (ABN), 25th Infantry Division (L). Early in 2006, he was promoted to First Sergeant and assumed responsibility for C. Company (Comanches), 1st Battalion 501 PIR. Later that year he deployed his company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007. In 2008, he was then assigned and assumed responsibility as First Sergeant of 4/25 Brigade Headquarters Company. He then deployed the Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VII. During the deployment, he was assigned to the 4th BCT (ABN) S-3 SHOP to serve as Operations NCO. In 2010, he was selected and completed tthe United States Army Sergeants Major Academy class 62.
Command Sergeant Major Rael’s military and civilian education includes; Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Primary Leadership Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advance Noncommissioned Officer Course, Ranger School, Rappel Master Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Jump Master School, Combat Dive School, Dive Supervisor Course, First Sergeant Course, U.S Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 62.
