USAID Boosts the Garment Industry in the Kyrgyz Republic

02/12/2013

From February 12th to March 14th, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will hold a series of ceremonies to commemorate the official handover of modern textile equipment to 17 Kyrgyz garment manufacturers.  The ceremonies will include presentations on sewing/textile equipment, computer aided textile design, and enterprise management.  The ceremonies will be held at garment enterprises in Bishkek City, Chui, Issyk-Kul and Osh provinces.

USAID has provided sewing/textile companies with advanced equipment worth more than $650,000.  The equipment includes advanced computer aided design systems, a laser cut-out machine, а scarf knitting machine, and a pleating machine, which is currently the only such equipment in Central Asia.

The new equipment will improve the quality of the final products of these enterprises while also increasing their productivity.  Market research suggests that these improvements could increase sales by approximately 11% and the number of jobs by 13% by the end of 2013.  Furthermore, local administrations will benefit from the increased tax revenues and new job opportunities created by the growth of these enterprises.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, employees of the sewing enterprises, staff of the USAID Local Development Program, local administrations, and mass media will participate in the equipment handover ceremonies.
