Shape Changers

Bioengineering researchers have found that changing the shape of chemotherapy drug nanoparticles from spherical to rod-shaped made them up to 10,000 times more effective at targeting and delivering anti-cancer drugs to breast cancer cells. The findings could have a game-changing impact on the effectiveness of anti-cancer therapies.

Capturing the Sun’s Energy Using a “forest” of gold nanorods, scientists at UCSB are developing a new method of harvesting the Sun’s energy. Though still in its infancy, the research promises to convert sunlight into energy using a process based on metals that are more robust than the semiconductors used in conventional methods.
