Basing the MV-22B at MCAS Futenma would upgrade the USMC’s medium-lift capability and significantly strengthen the United States' ability:
- to provide the defense of Japan
- to perform Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations
- to fulfill other Alliance roles
