On Friday, our nation honors military members past and present.
Some of our veterans have made the ultimate sacrifice — to whom our debt can never be repaid.
Our country’s military members remain spiritually steadfast, inspiring us with their strength of character and enduring contributions. Whether in military or civilian life, all of our veterans, especially our wounded warriors, deserve nothing less than our best praise and support.
This is a special time when the country shows gratitude to our veterans and our military for all that they have done to keep us safe. As we honor our veterans, may we remember the wonderful things they have done and are doing. We are thankful and wish to celebrate their selfless service to our nation.
Many of our military, civilians and their families will use this holiday weekend to travel outside the local area to visit relatives, friends or enjoy a fall vacation. Commanders and supervisors must ensure that our service members and civilians are informed of the potential hazards during this long weekend.
Commanders will conduct safety briefings prior to this holiday weekend, including a discussion of the Battle Buddy System, safe alcohol consumption, fatigue avoidance, seat belt usage and suicide prevention — at a minimum.
I remind all Soldiers that use of the TRiPS online POV risk-assessment tool is mandatory for all personnel on leave, pass or TDY. I also encourage our other service members and civilian employees to use it. The TRiPS tools may be found at https://safety.army.mil/. This is a valuable tool that can save lives.
