Background

The financial Management Office is responsible for providing a full range of financial management services for the embassy. The office formulates and manages annually over 20 budgets totaling more than $14 million. It process annually over 3,800 payments to vendors and employees. It manages cashier operations with a total annual value of over $8.5 million. The office works closely with all other sections in
the embassy to ensure operations are properly funded and carried out in accordance with appropriation law and agency financial regulations. The office provides budget briefings and reports to senior managers and State Department offices in Washington and Charleston.

Scope

Interns will report directly to the Financial Management Specialist at the Embassy. Duties will include
but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing work flow processes to identify areas for improving customer service and efficiency gains
  • Researching financial records to identify spending trends and cost saving possibilities
  • Updating and revising standard operating procedures
  • Helping with general office work.


Duration

Though the schedule will be flexible to match the intern’s educational obligations, the intern will be expected to work between 10-20 hours per week. The internship is for a minimum of 3 months and up to 6 months.

Qualifications

Undergraduate students in financial, business or organizational management. Essential skills/abilities include: strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, organizational skills, a willingness to work in team-oriented environment and a good sense of humor. The successful candidate must have strong English writing and communication skills and a working knowledge of Danish.

The internship is unpaid.

The internship will begin in January/February 2013.
