Background

The Economic Affairs Office, part of the joint Political and Economic Affairs Section of the American Embassy in Copenhagen, advances economic cooperation between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States of America. We monitor and report on economic affairs, providing insight into developments affecting U.S.-Danish relations. Issues covered include the Danish economic outlook, trade developments, financial regulations, energy, and Arctic issues, with focus also on the economic development of Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

Scope

Interns will report directly to the Economic Specialist. Duties include providing a daily update of economic developments along with providing analyses and briefings on select topics, including background reports on select industries, regions or areas of interest. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend key lectures/presentations, assist with visitors and actively participate in relevant internal and external meetings.

Duration and Working Hours

The schedule will be flexible to match the intern’s educational obligations, and the intern will be expected to work between 15-20 hours per week.

The internship will begin in January/February and last up to six months with a minimum of three months.

The internship is unpaid.

Qualifications

Graduate students (in economics, business, political science, or a related liberal art) with significant interest and/or competencies in economic and political issues are strongly encouraged to apply. Regardless of academic focus, highly-motivated undergraduate students with strong academic credentials will be considered. Essential skills/abilities include: analytical competencies, thinking creatively, demonstrating a willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and good organizational and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must have strong English writing and communication skills.
