Background

Walgreens is the nation's largest drugstore chain and operates more than 7,700 drugstores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The company has a long-standing commitment to reducing energy usage and expanding its renewable energy initiatives. Walgreens will reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint through a comprehensive approach including investment in the most energy-efficient technologies, installation of energy management systems in thousands of locations and a commitment to renewable energy, with solar power installations at more than 130 locations.

Through its partnership in the Better Buildings Challenge, Walgreens is committing to reducing energy use by 20% by 2020 across its portfolio of 125 million square feet.
